Instead of configuring the same property extraction rule on every individual stage, you define the property once globally and reference it wherever it is needed. Global properties are available only in the Custom Logging type of BAM. ### Business value Global properties reduce configuration duplication across large BAM deployments. When a property source changes, for example when a JSON path is updated, you update it in one place and all stages that reference the property reflect the change immediately, without re-opening each stage configuration. ## Prerequisites ### Required permissions | Permission | Required role | | --- | --- | | View global properties | Any role with **View global properties** enabled | | Manage global properties | Any role with **Manage global properties** enabled | The **Manage global properties** permission allows users to create, edit, manage, and delete global properties. Assign this permission to roles that are responsible for maintaining shared tracking property definitions across business processes. ## How it works Global properties are managed from **Settings > Global properties** in the tree view. Each global property has a name and a data type. Once created, properties are mapped to stages during stage configuration. When you edit a global property, all stages where it is mapped are automatically updated to reflect the new name or type. You can also configure the property extraction details (property source, JSON path, regex) at the business process level rather than stage by stage, and optionally apply a single configuration to all stages within a business process in one step. Note: Global properties are available only in the Custom Logging type of BAM. ## Steps Use the following steps to edit, delete, and configure global properties. Navigate to **Business Activity Monitoring > Settings > Global properties** in the tree view to get started. ### Edit a global property Editing a global property updates its name or data type across all stages where it is mapped. 1. Go to **Settings > Global properties** in the tree view. 2. Click the **Actions menu** next to the desired global property. 3. Select **Edit**. 4. Update the property name and/or data type. 5. Click **Update**. Any changes to the global property are reflected in all stages where it is mapped. ### Delete a global property Deleting a global property removes it from all stages where it is mapped. 1. Click the **Actions menu** next to the desired global property in the tree view. 2. Select **Delete**. 3. Click **Delete** in the confirmation dialog. ### Configure a global property at the business process level Configuring a global property at the business process level lets you set the extraction details (property source, JSON path, regex) for all stages within a specific business process in a single operation. 1. Click the **Actions menu** next to the desired global property in the tree view. 2. Select **Manage configurations**. 3. Click **Configure** next to the target business process. 4. Enter valid values for **Property source**, **Property JSON path**, and **Extract value using regular expression** as needed. Note: Enable **Apply the configuration to all the stages where this Global property is mapped** to apply these extraction details to every stage within that business process at once. 1. Click **Save**. The global property is now accessible at the stage level within that business process. The mapped property can be overridden at the individual stage level if a stage-specific configuration is required. ## Limitations - Global properties are available only in the Custom Logging type of BAM. - Deleting a global property removes it from all mapped stages immediately and cannot be undone. ## Troubleshooting 1. **Global property changes are not reflected in stage configurations** Cause: The stage may have a local override that takes precedence over the global configuration. Fix: Open the individual stage configuration and check whether a stage-level override is in place. Remove or update the override as needed. 2. **Manage configurations shows no business processes** Cause: No business processes have been created in the BAM environment, or the global property has not yet been mapped to any stage. Fix: Verify that at least one business process exists and that the global property has been mapped to one or more stages in stage configuration. 3. **Property JSON path is not extracting the expected value** Cause: The JSON path may not match the actual message payload structure. Fix: Use the **Extract value using regular expression** field to refine extraction, or review the stage's actual message payload to verify the correct path. ## Related articles - [Managing business processes](https://docs.turbo360.com/docs/managing-business-processes) - [Storage management](https://docs.turbo360.com/docs/storage-management-1)
