Daily Monitoring - Use Amortized Cost
If you are using the daily interval for the group budget as shown below then it is recommended to use the cost metric for amortized cost as shown below. The reason for this is that if you have reservation purchases then on certain days in the month the purchase will be applied and you will see a spike in cost on that day. If you choose amortized cost then the cost of the reservation is split out over the resources for the duration of the period of the reservation so you would not see a spike in cost that day because the cost is split over the period.
If you are using the monthly interval then amortized and actual cost can both be used effectively.
Monthly Monitoring with Sub-thresholds
If you are using the monthly monitoring for group budget then you might not want to wait a long time before the you realize you are going off the rails. You can configure sub-thresholds by clicking the alert conditions shown below.
You can then add additional thresholds where you will get an alert to tell you that a certain amount of your budget is spent.
