Reservation Recommendations

Introduction

Reservation recommendations is a type of document offered by Azure Documenter that provides recommendations for optimizing cost by reserving the compute resources for 1 or 3 year(s) commitment.

Reservation Recommendations are currently available for the following resource types:

• App service plan

• Virtual Machine

Document structure

The document contains the recommendations of four different types,

1. Purchase Reservation

For any resrource which is elig
Recommendations of this type show that you can optimize your cost utilization by purchasing a reservation with a one-year (or) three-year pricing commitment.

2. Change SKU and Purchase Reservation

Recommendations of this type indicate that the resource's SKU should be changed to a SKU compatible with reservations and reservation can be purchased.

3. Change SKU and Use Existing Reservation

Recommendations of this type indicates that the resource's SKU should be changed to one that is compatible with reservations and can leverage the unused reservations.

4. Already with Reservation

Recommendations of this type indicates that the resources are already using the purchased reservations.

Generate a Document

1. Click New configuration in the Azure Documenter homepage

2. Enter a name to the document configuration and click Next

3. Choose the required subscriptions and click Next

4. Select Reservation recommendations as the document type and click Next

5. Filters can be defined to narrow down the document content

6. Click Next

7. Choose the publish settings and click Next

8. Configure notification channels

9. Click on Preview document to gain insight on the chosen document type, offering a preview of its content and structure which aids in selecting the most suitable document for use.

10. Click on Generate to generate the document.

The Reservation recommendations document can also be generated with the help of Generate document option available in any of the existing document configurations.

Once the generation is completed, the URL will be generated. The user will also be able to download the generated document via the Download hyperlink.

Changing the evaluation duration

Users can define the evaluation duration for their Reservation document, which can be achieved while editing a configuration.

1. Click Edit option in the context menu of an existing configuration.

2. In the Advanced settings section under Reservation recommendations, provide the preferred evaluation duration.

3. Click Update to save the changes made.
