How it works
Azure Documenter delivers these benefits through its two core areas, Documentation and Diagrams, plus flexible publishing options.
1. Consolidated reporting
Instead of pulling data from multiple Azure blades, Azure Documenter generates a single document covering resources, billing, security compliance, access, and optimization recommendations, using the document type that matches the audience (for example, Executive summary for leadership, Billing details for finance).
2. Cost optimization guidance
Rightsizing recommendations and Reservation recommendations document types surface opportunities to reduce spend, including potential savings of up to 60% through Azure Reserved Instances, without requiring a separate cost analysis exercise.
3. Compliance reporting
The Security compliance document type generates a report on policy evaluation results and security recommendations across your subscriptions, giving compliance and governance teams documented evidence of adherence without manual data gathering.
4. Architecture visibility
The Diagrams area lets you map resources across one or more subscriptions to a business orchestration, making it easier to explain why resources exist and how they relate. This is useful for onboarding, audits, or incident response.
5. Flexible distribution
Documents can be published as PDF, Word, or Excel files, stored in a built-in storage account or your own, or published online through a Document360 project, removing the need to manually distribute files over email or shared drives.
