Overview

Advisor recommendations surfaces Azure Advisor-generated guidance for all supported resource types within a Business Application. You can review, filter, postpone, dismiss, and download recommendations directly from Turbo360, at both the Business Application Overview level and the individual resource level, without switching to the Azure portal.

Postponing or dismissing a recommendation in Turbo360 is reflected back in Azure Advisor. Recommendations that have been postponed or dismissed are available under View suppressed recommendations in the Actions menu, at both the Business Application Overview and individual resource levels.

Business value

Azure Advisor continuously generates reliability, cost, and operational excellence guidance for your Azure resources. Advisor recommendations in Business Applications brings that guidance directly into Turbo360, so you can review, act on, and track recommendations without switching to the Azure portal. Actions taken in Turbo360 sync back to Azure Advisor automatically, keeping both tools aligned.

Prerequisites

Required permissions

Access to Advisor recommendations depends on the role assigned to the user in Business Applications.

Role Access
Account Owner Full access: view, filter, postpone, dismiss, view suppressed recommendations, download as Excel
Owner Full access: view, filter, postpone, dismiss, view suppressed recommendations, download as Excel
Contributor Full access: view, filter, postpone, dismiss, view suppressed recommendations, download as Excel
Reader View only: cannot postpone, dismiss, or access View suppressed recommendations
Custom: Read + Manage (all resource types) Full access
Custom: Read Only (all resource types) View only
Custom: scoped resource types (Read/Manage) Can only see recommendations for permitted resource types in the Business Application Overview; recommendations for non-permitted types are hidden; suppressed recommendations for non-permitted types remain accessible via View suppressed recommendations

Dependencies

The Explain with AI (✦) option on individual recommendations requires AI agents to be enabled at the account level. To enable it, go to Settings > General settings and turn on the AI agents toggle. When AI agents are disabled, the option is hidden for all users. When a custom role has AI agents set to Disabled, the Explain with AI option is blocked with the message "You are not authorized to perform this operation" even if the toggle is on globally.

How it works

Advisor recommendations pulls Azure Advisor data for all supported resource types associated with your Business Application and presents it in a unified panel. The panel shows a summary bar with the total recommendation count, a severity breakdown (High, Medium, Low), and the top category by count.

Business Application Overview level. The Advisor recommendations widget appears on the BA Overview page, showing aggregate recommendations across all resources in the Business Application. Select View all to open the full recommendations panel. The panel lists each recommendation with the resource name, category (Reliability, Cost, Operational Excellence), impact level, recommendation text, potential savings, and subscription. You can work across all resources from this single view.

Individual resource level. Each resource page has an Advisor recommendations icon in the top-right toolbar. Selecting it opens a resource-scoped panel showing only the recommendations for that specific resource, along with the same fields and action options.

Suppressed recommendations. Any recommendation you postpone or dismiss is moved to the suppressed list. This applies at both levels: a recommendation postponed or dismissed on a resource page moves to the suppressed list on that resource and also on the Business Application Overview. To view suppressed items, open the Actions menu and select View suppressed recommendations.

Steps

The following operations are available from both the Business Application Overview and the individual resource level. Navigate to the BA Overview and select View all in the Advisor recommendations widget, or open an individual resource page and select the Advisor recommendations icon in the top-right toolbar.

Filter recommendations

Filtering narrows the recommendation list by category, impact, resource type, or subscription so you can focus on what matters most.

  1. Select Filters to open the filter panel.
  2. In the Filter field, select the filter type: Category, Impact, Resource type, or Subscription.
  3. In the Operator field, select == (equals) or != (not equals).
  4. In the Value field, select one or more values from the dropdown. For Category, available values are Cost, Operational Excellence, and Reliability. For Impact, available values are High, Medium, and Low.
  5. Select Save Filter to apply.

Postpone a recommendation

Postponing a recommendation hides it temporarily when you plan to address it later. The postponed item moves to View suppressed recommendations and is also reflected in Azure Advisor.

  1. Select the checkbox next to one or more recommendations.
  2. Select Actions > Postpone recommendation.
  3. In the Postpone recommendation dialog, select a time period: 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, or 3 months.
  4. Confirm the selection. The recommendation is removed from the active list and added to View suppressed recommendations.

Dismiss a recommendation

Dismissing a recommendation removes it from the active list when it is not applicable to your environment. The dismissed item moves to View suppressed recommendations and is also reflected in Azure Advisor.

  1. Select the checkbox next to one or more recommendations.
  2. Select Actions > Dismiss recommendation.
  3. In the Dismiss recommendation dialog, review the confirmation message and select Continue.
  4. The recommendation is removed from the active list and added to View suppressed recommendations.

View suppressed recommendations

All postponed and dismissed recommendations are accessible from the suppressed list.

  1. Select Actions > View suppressed recommendations.
  2. The suppressed recommendations panel opens, showing all items that have been postponed or dismissed.

Download recommendations as Excel

You can export the current recommendation list to Excel for reporting or offline review.

  1. Select Actions > Download as excel.
  2. The file downloads to your local machine with the current recommendation data.

Permission behavior

Access to Advisor recommendations actions varies by role.

Full access roles (Account Owner, Owner, Contributor, Custom Read + Manage) can view all recommendations, apply filters, postpone, dismiss, access View suppressed recommendations, and download as Excel.

View-only roles (Reader, Custom Read Only) can view recommendations and apply filters, but the postpone, dismiss, and View suppressed recommendations options are not available.

Scoped custom roles see only the recommendations for resource types they have permission to access in the Business Application Overview. Recommendations for resource types outside their scope are hidden. However, suppressed recommendations for those out-of-scope resource types remain accessible via View suppressed recommendations.

AI agents disabled (custom role). When a custom role has AI agents set to Disabled, the Explain with AI (✦) option on individual recommendations returns the message "You are not authorized to perform this operation", regardless of the account-level AI agents setting.

Example scenario

A platform team uses a Business Application called "Kovai" that groups 56 Azure resources across multiple subscriptions. During a monthly review, the Advisor recommendations widget on the BA Overview shows 51 active recommendations, with 36 High-impact items. The top category is Reliability with 28 recommendations.

A team member with Contributor access opens the full recommendations panel and applies a filter: Category == Reliability, Impact == High. This narrows the list to the most urgent reliability items. They select a Kubernetes Service recommendation ("Have at least 2 nodes in your system node pool") and use the Explain with AI (✦) option to review the AI-generated implementation guidance and risk assessment before acting.

For a recommendation that is already being tracked in a separate process, they select it and choose Actions > Postpone recommendation, setting a 1-month deferral. The recommendation moves to View suppressed recommendations in Turbo360 and is updated in Azure Advisor automatically.

A team member with Reader access can view the same list and apply filters, but the Actions menu options for postpone, dismiss, and View suppressed recommendations are not available to them.

Limitations

  • Advisor recommendations data is sourced from Azure Advisor. The availability of recommendations depends on Azure Advisor's coverage for the resource type and subscription.
  • Postpone and dismiss actions are not available to Reader or Read-Only custom roles.
  • For scoped custom roles, recommendations for resource types outside the permitted scope are not visible in the Business Application Overview panel, though their suppressed recommendations remain accessible.
  • The Explain with AI (✦) option requires AI agents to be enabled both at the account level and for the user's role. If either is disabled, the option is blocked.
  • The Excel download reflects the current filtered view of recommendations, not the full suppressed list.

Troubleshooting

  1. Advisor recommendations widget shows no data on the BA Overview
Cause: Azure Advisor has not generated recommendations for the resources in this Business Application, or the connected subscription does not have Advisor data available.
Fix: Confirm that Azure Advisor is active for the subscription and that at least one resource type with Advisor support is present in the Business Application. Refresh the panel using the refresh icon.

  2. Postpone or dismiss options are not visible in the Actions menu
Cause: The user's role does not have the required permission level. Reader and Read-Only custom roles cannot postpone or dismiss recommendations.
Fix: Confirm the user's assigned role in Business Applications. To enable full access, the role must be Owner, Contributor, or a custom role with Manage permissions.

  3. Explain with AI option is blocked with "You are not authorized to perform this operation"
Cause: The user's custom role has AI agents set to Disabled, or AI agents are turned off at the account level in General settings.
Fix: Check Settings > General settings and confirm the AI agents toggle is enabled. If the user has a custom role, verify that AI agents are not disabled for that role.

  4. A recommendation postponed at the resource level is not appearing in the BA Overview suppressed list
Cause: There may be a brief delay before the suppressed state propagates from the resource level to the Business Application Overview panel.
Fix: Refresh the BA Overview panel using the refresh icon. If the item does not appear after refreshing, verify the action was completed at the resource level by reopening the resource's recommendation panel and checking View suppressed recommendations.

  5. Scoped custom role user cannot see recommendations for all resource types
Cause: The custom role is scoped to specific resource types. Recommendations for resource types outside the permitted scope are intentionally hidden in the Business Application Overview.
Fix: This is expected behavior. If broader visibility is required, the role must be updated to include the additional resource types or replaced with a full-access role. Note that suppressed recommendations for out-of-scope types remain accessible via View suppressed recommendations regardless of scope.

FAQs

  1. Does dismissing a recommendation in Turbo360 affect Azure Advisor?
Yes. Dismiss and postpone actions taken in Turbo360 are reflected in Azure Advisor. The recommendation is updated in Azure Advisor with the same dismissed or postponed status.

  2. Can I view recommendations that have been postponed or dismissed?
Yes. Select Actions > View suppressed recommendations from either the Business Application Overview or the individual resource panel. All postponed and dismissed items are listed there.

  3. Why can I see suppressed recommendations for resource types I cannot access in the main list?
For scoped custom roles, the main recommendations list only shows resource types within the role's permitted scope. However, suppressed recommendations for out-of-scope types remain accessible via View suppressed recommendations. This is by design and allows users to track previously dismissed items across all resource types.
